In mid-October Maria Nurmela and Ville Oinonen from Finland will arrive in Bulgaria to make their artistic residency at Derida Dance Center.

They will present their contemporary dance performance "The Days" on 28.10.2023 at 7.30 pm at the Derida Stage.

At each venue Maria and Ville hold workshops for people over 60 years of age, from which they select two people to become part of the performance itself. This element of the production proved to be incredibly rich for all involved, offering a much needed opportunity for creativity and social inclusion for a vulnerable group and raising the issue of ageism and access to cultural life for older people. The inclusion of these elderly local dancers gave the duet a palpable relatability, acting as a reminder to the audience that this could be anyone's story.

To that end, we invite seniors over the age of 60 to join us for the three workshops, which will take place in Sofia on October 24, 25 and 26 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Two of them will be selected and invited to take part in the dance performance, and for this purpose they will take part in the afternoon rehearsal on 28 October, as well as in the performance itself at 7.30 pm on the same date. Their appearance on stage will be about 3 minutes.

Candidate requirements:

- Be over 60 years of age;

- Be in good physical condition;

- Enjoy dancing and have a sense of rhythm (no professional dance experience necessary).
