PASSION - love according to G.H

Original work by Clarice Lispector, Finnish translation by Tarja Härkönen, dramatisation by Seppo Parkkinen, direction by Juha Malmivaara, music by Kari Mäkiranta, choreography by Maria Nurmela, visualisation by Pirjo Liiri-Majava and Kalle Ropponen, make-up by Minna Pilvinen, first performance at Manilla Old Distillery 2.4.2015.

G.H. is a sculptress, an upper-class, white woman living in Rio de Janeiro. Her relationship with her lover has recently ended in divorce. The domestic worker has also been made redundant. G.H. decides to take up cleaning. He starts in the room of his maid, the black-haired Janair. Instead of clutter, he sees a starkly tidy, almost empty room, until he finds a cockroach in a wardrobe...

G.H. realises that her maid has been living in her home "like an indifferent enemy". She becomes aware of her outside gaze. G.H. tries to kill the cockroach...

WHAT FORM SHOULD I GIVE TO WHAT HAPPENED TO ME?

Internal and external constructs disintegrate in Clarice Lispector's work. G.H. makes a magical and mystical journey in his mind to the origins of culture and living life. From this journey she gathers valuable insights into our existence, the mystery of life and the role of humankind in the world.

THE PASSION AND SUFFERING OF LOVE FRIGHTENS ME.

Screenings at the Old Winery in Manilla from 1 April to 10 May 2015.

“ The scenes danced by Maria Nurmela in the "neutral" role of the Cockroach and the music by Kari Mäkiranta, which follows the events and moods, create a subtle tension in the performance.”
