ENTANGLEMENT / KIETOUTUMINEN / VERWICKLUNG - dance film

Synopsis:

This film creates an embodied ecosystem in which the elements, the landscape, the human body and its gestural behaviours intertwine in a mythic palimpsest of realities. The work is inspired by Chilean biologists Humberto Maturana's and Francesco Varela ́s theory of autopoiesis, a network of processes in an organism that enables internal regeneration and self-maintenance, producing crucial parts of interacting biological systems. We also intend to foreground an awareness that networks of biological systems in organisms are necessarily identified and entangled with the place where they are located, at whatever scale: the local forest, the larger natural world, the Earth, space. The textual underpinning of the work is provided by Rainer Maria Rilke's poems about trees, with sound design that blurs the relationship between natural sound (both human and non-human) and gently mechanical or artificial sound.
