A BREATH OF A MILD KIND  (2024)

“This evocative work draws inspiration from Um Sopro de Vida (A Breath of Life), the final novel by acclaimed Brazilian author Clarice Lispector”

"A Breath of a Mild Kind” is a commissioned piece crafted for the Pori Dance Company, showcasing the artistry of its three seasoned female performers. This evocative work draws inspiration from Um Sopro de Vida (A Breath of Life), the final novel by acclaimed Brazilian author Clarice Lispector, published posthumously in 1978. Lispector’s text contemplates the relentless flow of time, the cycles of existence, and the profound solitude intrinsic to human life.

Rooted in these themes, A Breath of a Mild Kind unfolds as a series of encounters, a mosaic of fragmented moments that echo lived experiences. Everyday gestures and movements, distilled into poetic expressions, evoke the intimacy of diary entries or quiet dialogues. These vignettes resonate deeply, offering reflections that are both familiar and stirring. At its core, the work returns to the primal rhythm of breath—the essential act of inhalation and exhalation—through which life and time are intimately woven.

The production extends the enduring collaboration between choreographer Maria Nurmela and light and space designer Kalle Ropponen. Together, they craft an immersive, sensory landscape that envelops the audience in a holistic experience, blending movement, light, and space into a seamless artistic whole.
