"9000"
"9000" explores the evolving meanings of posthumanism. The work uses evolution as its starting point and addresses the role of humanity in the world, the biological and universal corporeality of humans, and the formation and levels of consciousness. The exhibition combines augmented reality, fine art photography, contemporary dance, multi-channel video, compositions and sound design. The presentation utilizes speaker technology, projections and photographs printed on various surfaces, which together create an immersive gallery environment.
The collective consists of photographer and filmmaker Vesa Loikas, choreographer and dancer Maria Nurmela, Australian composer and soprano Jane Sheldon and sound engineer and mixer Jaakko Vastapuu.
Their common artistic journey began in 2020 and unites their passion and expertise. However, each has had their own artistic path for several decades.

"9000 in Metaverse"
Maria Nurmela, Vesa Loikas and Jane Sheldon created “9000 in Metaverse" for Extra Live 2025, a global VR event launching September 1 on CULTURHUB’s Virtual Art House platform.
Extra Live serves as a social VR twin of Art House Turku, developed in collaboration with Proverse. This cross-disciplinary VR work explores posthumanist themes of co-evolution with AI, envisioning “a cosmos of entangled realities where the animate and inanimate converse.” The work explores the intersection of biological and artificial consciousness, while questioning humanity’s role in an era of intelligent systems.
