In-depth course into Feldenkrais® Method, Helsinki Summer University (April 24-25)

In-depth course into Feldenkrais® Method, Helsinki Summer University (April 24-25)

April 24, 2026 at 10:00:00 AM

In this in-depth course, we explore rotation across different positions and directions. We identify subtle differences and new ways, and delve into how movement can flow holistically through our bodies.

The course builds on learning about the Feldenkrais® Method, which can improve mobility and help you sense your own body and movement.

Time: April 24-25, 2026, Friday 6:15-8:00 PM and Saturday 1:30-4:30 PM

Course content and objectives: Rotation is one of the body's fundamental movements – it permeates all our movement from walking to reaching, from looking back to turning. Yet rotation can be challenging: the back may feel stiff, the shoulders and pelvis may not connect, and rotation may stop at some point in the body.
In this in-depth course, we explore rotation across different positions and directions. We identify subtle differences and new ways, and delve into how movement can flow holistically through our bodies.
We move primarily on the floor level – on our back, side, stomach, sitting – calmly and curiously. Each movement is an invitation to explore, not a performance. The course is not about how much you can rotate, but about the quality of movement – about how you could move more easily, freely, wholly. We give time to fine distinctions, small changes, and holistic listening and learning.
Benefits: When rotation becomes free, everyday life can become easier too – looking back in the car, reaching for a shelf, walking can become lighter and more elastic. The back breathes, the shoulders descend, and the movement feels more whole. The freedom of rotation can also affect balance, walking, and overall body coordination.

Learning materials and supplies: Please bring a mat to lie on, warm clothes, and a blanket or towel for comfort and warmth. We will spend time on the floor moving slowly.

For whom: The course is designed for those who are already familiar with the Feldenkrais® Method and want to dive deeper into the world of Feldenkrais.

Instructor: M.A. Maria Nurmela, certified Feldenkrais® practitioner. Read more about Maria here.
Duration and price: 6 hours, €95. This course can also be paid for with sports benefits.

Location: Annankatu 29 B, courtyard (adult education centre hall 1 Fri, hall 2 Sat)
