About the Exhibition
The long-term collaboration between Vesa Loikas, Jane Sheldon, Jaakko Vastapuu, and Maria Nurmela culminates in a new immersive visual art exhibition — 9000.
This marks Maria Nurmela’s first visual art exhibition, created together with the 9000 Collective.
9000 invites audiences into a multisensory experience where the boundaries between human, technology, and environment begin to dissolve. Exploring the evolving meanings of posthumanism, the work merges augmented reality, contemporary dance, fine art photography, sound design, experimental speaker technology, and multi-channel projections.
Photographs printed on diverse surfaces, layered sound textures, and kinetic imagery interlace to form a living, breathing gallery landscape — one that listens, moves, and transforms.

About the Collective

The 9000 collective brings together four artists from different disciplines and continents:
Vesa Loikas (photographer, filmmaker),
Maria Nurmela (choreographer, dancer),
Jane Sheldon (AUS) (composer, soprano), and
Jaakko Vastapuu (sound engineer, mixer).

Since 2020, the artists have explored shared questions of perception, presence, and transformation, weaving movement, sound, and visual form into immersive experiences that reflect on what it means to be human — and what lies beyond.
